Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre sits in the uplands of west Fermanagh, below Cuilcagh. The visit is a guided walk through river-formed cave passages, usually including a short boat section, with a visitor centre and marked walks above ground.

Because the caves are formed by an active river system, the caves are one of the few Fermanagh attractions where the weather in the days before your visit matters as much as the weather on the day.

  • Visitors who want a guided, structured visit rather than a self-guided wander
  • Families with children old enough for a walking tour underground
  • Anyone already spending a day on the western side of the county

Less suited to

  • Tight schedules that cannot absorb a cancelled or rescheduled tour
  • Anyone uneasy with confined spaces, steps or uneven surfaces underground
  • Days where you also intend to complete the Cuilcagh walk

How long to allow

The tour
Allow well over an hour underground once you include the walk in and out, plus time at the visitor centre.
Half a day in total
With the drive from Enniskillen and time either side, a visit realistically takes half a day.
Arriving early
Tours run to set departures, so allow slack — arriving with minutes to spare can mean waiting for the next one.

Planning the visit

  • Book directly with the visitor centre where booking is required, and confirm the arrangements for the date you want.
  • Check on the morning of your visit as well as when you book. Tours can be suspended at short notice.
  • Wear shoes with grip and bring a warm layer — it is cool underground whatever the weather outside.
  • Ask about accessibility, step counts and suitability when you book if anyone in your party needs to know before travelling.

Where to base yourself

West and south Fermanagh

Staying around Florencecourt, Marlbank or Belcoo keeps the drive short and makes it easy to move the visit to another morning.

Enniskillen

Around 25 to 30 minutes' drive, and the easier base if you want restaurants and shops in the evening.

What else is nearby

The Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail starts immediately nearby by car, and Florence Court is a short drive away. That does not mean the caves and the Cuilcagh walk belong in the same day: each is a substantial visit, and pairing them usually spoils both.

Seasons, weather and what we cannot promise

  • Tours and access depend on operating conditions and can be affected by water levels in the cave system, particularly after heavy or prolonged rain.
  • Opening is seasonal and tour departures are set by the operator. We do not publish times, prices or availability.
  • The caves are not a guaranteed wet-weather fallback. The rain that drives you indoors is the same rain that can close the tour, so have a second plan.
  • Underground tours are not suitable for everyone. Check the operator's own guidance on access, steps and suitability before you travel.

If it does not happen

If the tour is not running, Florence Court and Belleek Pottery both work as indoor visits on the western side of the county, and Enniskillen Castle Museums is the reliable wet-weather option closer to town.
